It has been stated that McKay was initially expected to start at Celtic from the 1st of July, with Peter Lawwell set to depart in the summer. Because the club is in need of an overhaul, McKay has chosen to start early and his first major task will be to bring in a new manager.

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

McKay is reported to have held talks with Eddie Howe and the Englishman could be appointed before the end of the campaign.

A lot of these Celtic fans seem pleased by this news and they seem to like the update.

Celtic might have to play the Champions League qualifiers from June onwards, which means that they need to start the overhaul quickly. The club hasn’t qualified for the Champions League group stages since the 2017/18 season and starting the overhaul early could change that.

So this decision from McKay does make a lot of sense.
