Pundit Alan Rough has recently delivered a claim about a big Old Firm boost for Celtic involving James Forrest.

This came after Rough appeared on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show and the panel talked about multiple issues involving Celtic, the upcoming Old Firm derby and Scottish football in general.

While talking about the Old Firm, Rough was asked about Forrest’s importance for Celtic. The pundit stated that the Scottish winger is a massive player for the Bhoys and his presence could give everyone a lift in the Bhoys’ camp.

Will Forrest be fit for the Old Firm?

Celtic interim boss John Kennedy has recently stated that Forrest would be monitored ahead of the Old Firm. It could well go down to the last minute and the club will make a decision based on his training and performance this week (as per Glasgow Times).

Rough described Forrest to be a ‘match-winner’ and he’s someone who gives Celtic some goals.

The ex-player stated: “It’s always important when you’ve got a massive player like that, you’ve got a match-winner. I think if you ask anybody at Celtic, whether it be Neil Lennon or whoever, he’s one player that they’ve missed. He gives you something different.

“He also gives you a lot of goals as he showed at the weekend. I think he’s a massive player. If he was fit and his name was on that teamsheet, it’d give everybody a lift.”

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

TIF Thoughts on James Forrest…

Forrest has quite a decent record against Rangers in his career. He has played in the Old Firm as many as 23 times in all competitions, winning 17 of them and losing just three times.

This suggests that he’s an experienced campaigner in these games, the 29-year-old has picked up six assists in these games, scoring two goals as well.

He returned to fitness only recently, scoring in the Scottish Cup game against Falkirk. That is certainly a good sign and considering his Old Firm record, having Forrest fit could be a boost for Celtic.
