Celtic supporters have been reacting on Twitter after Ivan Toney revealed he was ‘very close’ to joining the club last summer.

The 25-year-old moved from Peterborough United to Brentford in a £10m move last year and has enjoyed a fabulous first campaign with his new side.

Toney has bagged 29 goals and provided 10 assists in 40 league games for the Bees this season, firing Thomas Frank’ men to fourth place in the second tier table

However, things could have been very different for the Englishman after he recently disclosed how close he came to signing for the former Scottish champions.

“I was very close. I went up there & spoke to everybody,” said the in-form striker on TalkSport (via the Daily Record).

“I was at the training ground looking around and that so it got to those stages, but I just don’t think they were too keen on signing me.”

While Toney has gone from strength to strength at the Brentford Community Stadium, Celtic have had a turbulent 2020/21, and the forward’s comments have added to the fan’s misery.

“Instead we got Ajeti, that’s not to say Toney wouldn’t have fell victim to whatevers went on at Celtic this season. But Toneys stats speak for their self, all we had to do was be competent & even that was too much for the . Charlatans.”
