Wolves journalist Tim Spiers has slammed defender Willy Boly for his recent performances after his display against Burnley.

Wolves were stunned by Sean Dyche’s men 4-0 at Molineux, who were still flirting with the possibility of relegation heading into the game, in a display that didn’t leave any Wolves player coming out of it with much credit, with the team’s average WhoScored rating being below 6.

However, the worst performer on the day was Boly, who picked up a score of 5.4/10 for his efforts, or indeed lack thereof. And speaking on The Molineux View podcast, Spiers said that this game was not just a one-off, but that this has been a trend that has been developing over recent weeks:

“Boly had possibly his worst game in a Wolves shirt; his form is a huge concern for me. He’s your best defender, he’s the one you’ve got to rely on and he’s fallen off a cliff.”

TIF Thoughts on Tim Spiers’ comments about Willy Boly

Spiers’ argument isn’t really backed up by the numbers, as his recent form shows that he has been performing above his season average on WhoScored, so this performance could be put down as a one-off in the grand scheme of things.

But if Spiers’ concerns are shared at Molineux, then with a value of £12.6m on Transfermarkt, it might be worth the club considering moving him on this summer.

After all he is 30, so he is getting to that stage of his career when they might need to think about bringing in someone younger at his position like the club did when they signed Fabio Silva last year. So if that form doesn’t pick up between now and the end of the season, then it might be something worth considering.
