Wolves journalist Joe Edwards has given fans an update on reports linking the club with Valencia’s Gonçalo Guedes.

A recent report from The Daily Mail claimed that the Spanish side have offered the Portuguese winger, valued at £13.5m on Transfermarkt, to Wolves as they look to recoup as much of their reported £36m transfer fee back as they can that they paid for him in 2018.

What could also be a factor in the deal is the fact that Patrick Cutrone is currently on loan at Valencia from Wolves so could be used as a bargaining chip to make something happen.

But speaking on the E&S Wolves podcast, Edwards claimed that whilst he might be a player that could prove useful to Wolves, he hasn’t heard anything that would suggest that a deal is in the works at this moment in time:

“Guedes is a name that comes up quite regularly, isn’t he? I haven’t heard anything concrete as to that. Obviously, he’s at Valencia and I think he is a [Jorge] Mendes client, from looking in the past.

“He’s a wing player, somebody who could play across the front three and that is the kind of player that they probably need now, but whether Guedes is the right man, there’s nothing concrete to say at the minute.”

TIF Thoughts on Joe Edwards’ comments about Gonçalo Guedes to Wolves…

Given the connection that Wolves have with Mendes, it is obvious to see where a link could be made between Guedes and coming to Wolves this summer, although his levels of production don’t really lend themselves to the idea that he could be much use to the club.

Wolves have struggled to score goals this season, currently averaging just one a game in the Premier League, but Guedes doesn’t appear to be someone that you could guarantee would help you up front, with just 20 goals and 22 assists in 128 games for Valencia.

Add to that, the potential of needing a settling-in year to adapt to English football and with Wolves looking to make a big step forwards this season after something of a down year, they might be better off looking elsewhere for their next goal threat.
