TalkSport pundit Alex Crook says that Wolves are in desperate need of addressing their attacking options this summer after a terrible season.

Wolves’ goal return has fallen off a cliff compared to previous league campaigns, from 47 in 2018/19 and 51 in 2019/20, while they currently only have 32 to show for themselves this season, not helped by the absence of their top two scorers Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota from last season through injury and transfer respectively.

And speaking on the TalkSport Gameday podcast, Crook was hesitant when it came to their numbers bouncing back next season, both when it came to the returning Jimenez and also based on what he has seen from his replacements this campaign:

“It’s a big summer ahead. I know Jimenez hopefully will be back and will be back to his old self, but there’s no guarantee of that. The young lad, Fabio Silva, they lavished an awful lot of money on him and that doesn’t look like money well spent at the moment.

“[Adama] Traore has been poor, you know, his return for goals and assists, there’s no doubt he’s a fantastic athlete, he’s got pace to burn, but his end product, having improved last season, seems to have completely fallen away again.”

TIF Thoughts on Alex Crook’s comments about Wolves and their attacking options this summer…

If there has been any ‘good’ to come out of this season, it is that it has offered Wolves a big chance to really take stock of the situation at the club, and just how badly they need to address the forward position.

Thankfully they haven’t been too badly affected by it, only dropping down a few places in the league rather than being dragged into a relegation fight. But it should act as a warning that they need to add better strength in depth moving forward if they are to avoid a repeat next season and beyond.
