West Ham United-oriented journalist Roshane Thomas has recently talked about the club’s plans of signing Jesse Lingard permanently.

This came after Thomas appeared on the latest episode of the Totally Football Show podcast and the panel talked about numerous issues involving the Premier League and the recent Champions League fixtures.

Thomas was asked about Lingard and his situation at the club. The journalist revealed that signing him permanently will be a priority for David Moyes in the summer and Manchester United would demand a fee of around £25 million.

Lingard had joined West Ham on loan from Man Utd in January, despite being linked with a move to Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham. Newcastle United had also been linked with the Englishman.

Is Lingard worth £25 million?

Thomas revealed that Lingard has played an important role in socialising with his teammates and he has built a good relationship with Mark Noble.

The journalist said: “Well, West Ham will do everything they can to sign him on a permanent deal. He’s performing so well at the club right now. And in December, Man Utd extended Lingard’s deal, his contract expires at the end of next season.

“So West Ham will do everything they can to sign him. It is believed that Man Utd are looking to sell him in a region of £20-£25 million. So that’ll be good for West Ham, and that’ll be their priority this summer.

“That will be the first priority for David Moyes, to get him signed on a permanent deal. Because as I mentioned, he’s been great in terms of socialising with the players; I’ll tell you for instance – Mark Noble, he’s formed a really good friendship with Jesse Lingard.”

TIF Thoughts on Lingard…

Lingard, who is currently valued at £13.5 million, has certainly made a mark since arriving at West Ham by contributing to a total of ten goals. Six of them have been goals and four have been assists (as per Transfermarkt).

While that is certainly impressive from him, his time at Man Utd was full of spells where he was regularly amongst goals, but it was followed by barren periods as well (as per Transfermarkt).

So as good as he has been, West Ham should perhaps wait for a few weeks before making a final decision about what fee they can shell out for Lingard.
