Journalist Dean Jones has featured on the latest edition of Touchline Talk, discussing potential transfer moves ahead of the summer transfer window for West Ham United.

A name that has been hitting the headlines in Scotland as a potential departure this summer is Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard, with the striker having just one year remaining on his deal with the Bhoys.

Would Edouard be a good signing for West Ham?

Edouard has been in scintillating form this season for Celtic with 16 goals in his 25 appearances in the Scottish Premiership which has earned him interest from some Premier League clubs.

Brendan Rodgers has been linked with a potential reunion with his former striker, however, Jones admitted West Ham are an option when questioned by Pete O’Rourke about David Moyes’ lack of options up top.

He said: “That is true and they are one of the teams definitely that has been sounded out about Edouard, but we all know how many strikers that West Ham look at every single year.

“They definitely need one, because [Michail] Antonio, you see right now, he’s injured and look, Jarrod Bowen is doing well stepping in for him – I don’t know if you could rely on Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio as your two options again for an entire season.

“So almost certain that West Ham will strengthen in that area. It doesn’t seem to me that he’s a priority for them, from what I’ve heard. But yeah, he’s an option that they’ve been offered.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

West Ham do not have an out-and-out striker as such. Michail Antonio has featured up front for the Hammers this season following the departure of Sebastien Haller in January with the Ivory Coast international joining Ajax.

With Antonio out injured currently, Jarrod Bowen is expected to replace the 31-year-old up top for the Hammers despite typically playing out on the wing.

It seems West Ham would have huge competition if they were to pursue Edouard this summer, however, David Moyes’ side may be more likely to put their efforts into the potential permanent signing of the on-loan Jesse Lingard.
