Former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie has exclusively told This is Futbol that he expects Declan Rice to remain at the club this summer.

Manchester United have been strongly linked with the England midfielder in recent weeks, with reports suggesting that Jesse Lingard will potentially being used as part of a deal to lure Rice to Old Trafford.

Rice, who is currently out for a few more weeks following a knee problem sustained on international duty earlier this month, has been one of the standout midfielders in the Premier League this season, but with West Ham serious top four contenders this term, McAvennie doesn’t see any reason why he’d want to leave.

David Moyes’ side have six victories from their previous eight London Stadium matches and lie just one point behind third-place Leicester, boosting their chances of playing European football in some capacity next season.

“Now Rice is out for a couple of weeks, he’s going to Manchester United, he’s going here – the bandwagon starts again, but I think he’s happy,” the ex-Hammers frontman told This is Futbol.

“If they get into the Champions League or Europa League, why would he want to go somewhere – live in London, it’s a great place. Manchester United are a massive club, but does he want to live in Manchester? Rather than London, I don’t know.”
