Former Tottenham Hotspur ace Gary Mabbutt has poured intense praise upon breakout Spurs starlet Dane Scarlett.

The young striker recently signed a professional contract that came into effect on his 17th birthday in a fervent indication from the club that Scarlett is set for big things in north London.

Scarlett had previously made his Premier League debut at just 16 years of age when he came off the bench to replace Heung-min Son in Spurs’ 2-0 win over West Brom.

Mabbutt previously hailed the bountiful potential possessed by the young hitman and indicated that he could fill the striking void if the club chooses not to retain the services of on-loan Benfica striker Carlos Vinicius.

Mabbutt previously said that Scarlett ‘has got the potential’ and ‘seems to be taking it all in his stride’ in terms of stepping up to the first team, and has followed up this claim with further comments given to Football FanCast: “Every level he’s played at for us, his development is continuing at a very high level.

“He’s got the attitude, he’s got the character, the determination. And as far as his abilities, I think they’re unquestionable.

“So I’m delighted to see him getting his first full contract. And he’s a player that will be pushing to get through to that first team level on a consistent basis.”

The trust placed with a new deal is evidence of just how highly regarded Scarlett is at the club.

Should Spurs opt not to keep on Carlos Vinicius, the youngster could follow in the footsteps of Harry Kane in terms of graduating from the academy.

Valued at well over £100 million by Transfermarkt, the experienced England international is a talismanic leader at Spurs and could be the perfect tutor to ease Scarlett into the first team, honing his striking craft in the process.
