Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to the latest reports about who could be the man to replace Jose Mourinho at the club.

The Portuguese head coach was relieved of his duties yesterday after just 17 months in charge of the club, and whilst it hasn’t exactly been the best of seasons for the club, for them to do so the week of the League Cup final doesn’t come across as particularly smart.

The club have put former player Ryan Mason and Chris Powell in temporary charge of the side, but the club are already in the process of looking for a new man to take over long-term. And according to a report in The Guardian, the club have considered Belgium boss Roberto Martinez as well as England manager Gareth Southgate to take on the role.

The report states that Martinez ‘has admirers’ within the club, whilst Southgate could build on his relationship with England captain Harry Kane, which might help the club keep hold of him this summer. However, when these names were put to fans online via @LastWordOnSpurs, there didn’t seem to be too much enthusiasm about the idea of either of them taking over:

“Rather Mike Bassett than either of these two”

“I’m not delighted our players have brought down a second manager but what’s done is done. However, the idea that either Southgate or Martinez are good enough is laughable. Both bang average managers hiding behind the weakness of international football.”
“Both incredibly poor choices.”
“No and no”
“No thank you”
“Banter club”

Do you think Tottenham need a total rebuild?

Yes, this squad is done

Yes, this squad is done

No, we just need a new manager

No, we just need a new manager
It will be interesting to see if either would be willing to return to club management once again.
