Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to comments made by Alasdair Gold about defender Juan Foyth.

The Argentinian, valued at £9m on Transfermarkt, has been out on loan with Spanish side Villarreal this season after putting pen-to-paper on a new deal that sees him under contract with Spurs until the summer of 2023.

However, despite that new deal he might not be around to see it through, with a report from Football.London recently claiming that Villarreal are likely to take up a £13m option to make the move permanent.

And writing in an article for Football.London, Spurs insider Gold felt that letting him go could end up being a huge mistake on Tottenham’s part, noting that Foyth “could yet become a top player on the continent.”

His words were relayed to fans via his Twitter page, where there were many fans who agreed that letting him go might not look too good:

“He was the answer to our defensive midfield issue, it is such a shame cause he never got a fair shot”

“Always rated him.”
“Much better than Dier and Sanchez”
“Anyone with an inkling of a football eye could see Foyth was a player with promise. Mourinho is actually unbelievable”
“I always rated him. He’s better than all the CBs we have at the moment and would get game time.”
“Said it when the fans were getting on his back. After watching him numerous times this season in La Liga he has quality and he’ll be a regular in the Argentina defence in years to come.”
“So many from our fanbase slated this guy. But it was clear he had talent! Shame really – wrong manager, wrong time. Josè always loses one player who goes on to be a superstar. This will be our version.”
“Another Poch mistake regarding loaning players”

Now all that’s left to do is wait. Wait to see if Villarreal make the move permanent, and then to see if it was the right move for them to make.
