Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been reacting on Twitter after a post revealed the club will owe Jose Mourinho significantly less in compensation should he fail to guide Spurs into a European qualification spot this season.

According to Daily Mail ‘sources’, if Spurs fail to finish in a Champions League or Europa League spot, then Mourinho would be contractually entitled to considerably less than the £30m he would otherwise be in line for; and the news has only added to the controversy surrounding the Portuguese boss.

A 2-2 draw with relegation-threatened Newcastle United over the weekend saw the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss come under even more pressure at the capital club.

After being dumped out of the FA Cup by Everton and Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb, Tottenham’s campaign hinges on their Carabao Cup final showdown with Manchester City at the end of the month and their position in the Premier League table.

Currently, the north London outfit are sitting in sixth position, three points behind fourth-placed West Ham but only seven ahead of 11th placed Leeds United in an incredibly cramped top flight.

Fans reacted angrily with some accepting that Mourinho could be here to stay, while others continued to call for his sacking:

“What an absolute farce”

@COYSJordan94

“It’s literally pointless sacking him now. May as well see what he does for rest of the season. New manager before transfer window opens and start the season 100% fresh”

@BeardedMule

“The “happy one” doesn’t seem so happy now.”

@jpoler1

“It doesn’t matter what the English Media do/say against Jose, he’ll be there next season. The Media never liked him, and wants him out. I blame Jose who wanted to change to fit into the agenda of the Media. He s/be that ruthless & arrogant coach. That was what brought him success”

@Enwagboso

“A heavy defeat In any of the games in the next 4 including the final and I think it could be curtains. Levy will leave it as long as possible coz it will show his mistake in bringing Jose in”

@JgNabil

“The thing is this manager ain’t even going to get us top 4 are our board that stupid not realise”

@COYSJordan94

Mourinho has often split opinion throughout his career, and it seems as though some Spurs supporters are becoming tired of the circus that appears to follow him around.
