Fabrizio Romano has been trying to cover all the main talking points in the world of football on the latest instalment of the Here We Go podcast, and he spent some time discussing Jose Mourinho’s exit from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 58-year-old was sacked after a run of three games without a win left Spurs sitting in seventh position in the Premier League table and several points adrift of the Champions League places.

Mourinho’s departure shocked many as he was sacked by Daniel Levy just six days before he was scheduled to take charge of the north London outfit in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.

However, Romano has revealed that the Tottenham hierarchy were already planning on getting rid of the Portuguese boss at the end of the campaign following one particularly disappointing result.

He said: “Tottenham took the decision with Mourinho, was surprising for the timing, sure, but they were already planning to sack Jose at the end of the season.

“They made the decision after the match against Dinamo Zagreb in Europa League, was something really poor where Tottenham decided to change and obviously, they took some time because of the Premier League situation, but this is the situation with Mourinho, and Tottenham are going for a new manager next season.”

TIF Thoughts on Mourinho…

The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss has won trophies everywhere he has managed, so he’s likely to be upset that he was denied the chance to carry on that trend with Tottenham.

It’s hard to imagine Mourinho managing in the Premier League again after being sacked by three of the top flight’s biggest clubs in the space of five and a half years.

Where the controversial character ends up next only time will tell, but Mourinho appears to have been on the decline for some time now, and large sections of the Tottenham supporters were happy with his departure.
