Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, former Tottenham defender Graham Roberts believes Jose Mourinho would be under more pressure if supporters were allowed at games.
Tottenham blew the chance to go fourth earlier this month after drawing 2-2 with Newcastle United, before being beaten at home to Manchester United at the weekend to remain behind both Chelsea and West Ham in the race to secure Champions League football.
While the north London club still have the chance to win some silverware when they take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup later this month, this season is starting to look like a really underwhelming one after showing so much promise at one stage.
Having once led the race for the Premier League title, Tottenham now find themselves scrapping for fourth place and out of both the Europa League and FA Cup. And Roberts is certain Mourinho and the team would be under more pressure in normal circumstances.
He told TIF in an exclusive interview:
“It wasn’t a good result [2-2 draw against Newcastle]. You know, no disrespect, we haven’t played particularly well this year. We played well in games and then we haven’t played well in games.
“I think if the fans would have been going to the stadium at the moment, I think there’d be a lot more pressure on the team and on Jose.”
Next up for Tottenham in the Premier League is the visit of Manchester United.
