There has been confusion surrounding Toby Alderweireld this week after he was omitted from the Spurs squad for their trip to Newcastle last weekend.
But sources close to Alderweireld disputed that claim, and he was pictured at Enfield on Thursday (via The Athletic).
But he refused to do so and went on to accuse the media of ‘playing games’.
Is Mourinho feeling the pressure?
Spurs are currently only three points off the top four, but the early promise of the season has unravelled.
They topped the Premier League in early December, but they have picked up only 25 points from a possible 57 since.
The North London outfit also suffered an embarrassing Europa League exit at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb.
Evening Standard journalist Dan Kilpatrick relayed Mourinho’s intriguing comments, and here’s how supporters reacted.
Mourinho slammed after taking aim at media
“Playing games? Says the guy who said Toby had returned late from international duty, only to be shown to be a liar as the club had shown him in training photos in the days before he “returned”. I wonder whether he’d call that playing games?”
“I’ve declined to want him as my manager”
“Ramblings of a mad man. I’m so bored of his drivel. Get him gone.”
“Embarrassing. He was either mistaken re Toby or consciously lied. Either way be man enough to admit which. Pathetic but not surprising.”
“It’s all a bit baffling isn’t it. Just tired of this nonsense now.”
“Everyone around the club knows his time is up, Levy just gotta pull the trigger”
