Liam Kennedy has been speaking on a recent edition of NUFC Matters about all things relating to Newcastle United.

Starting with a relatively recent player. Who is this?

One of the topics he spent a bit of time on was Rafael Benitez and his potential return to Tyneside.

The Spaniard left Newcastle in the summer of 2019 after he lost trust in the board.

He went to China, but he is now back and ready to work in England and the Shields Gazette reporter thinks that should the proposed takeover of the Toon go through, Benitez is all ready to join Newcastle.

He said: “It’s all set to do it. So if Newcastle United get that green light that they’re really hoping for, it’s all set; Rafa will come straight back in, his coaching team’s already there.

“He knows it. He knows the club. We think he’s already got his director of football; we think he’s got a load of other things already set up ready to walk through the door.

“He does want to be involved in top competitions, and I think he wanted that for Newcastle United. He wanted the project.

“Fingers crossed everything goes the way everyone hopes it does because I’m almost certain if that happens, we’ll see Rafa Benitez manage at Newcastle United again.”

Do you think Benitez will return as Newcastle manager?

TIF Thoughts on Benitez…

Benitez could see the potential of the Toon as a club, but that was never realised while he was there.

However, given the wealth backing this proposed takeover, it would be fantastic to see Benitez back on Tyneside to complete the project that he started when he first arrived.

Judging by Kennedy’s information, it sounds like he is ready to go, but it will be intriguing to see what happens with the club’s arbitration case as that could decide Benitez’s short-term future.
