Liam Kennedy has been speaking on the latest edition of NUFC Matters about all things relating to Newcastle United.

Starting with a relatively recent player. Who is this?

One of the topics the Shields Gazette reporter spent some time on was the Toon’s proposed takeover by PCP Capital Partners, PIF and the Reuben brothers that was withdrawn last July.

Kennedy was asked what impact relegation could have on the takeover as the Toon sit in 17th place with nine games to go.

There have been claims that the takeover would not be impacted by relegation, and that might be the case, but Kennedy thinks that the situation would become a lot more complicated.

He said: “We have purely got to focus on the next six weeks or whatever, eight weeks, however long it may be on staying in this division.

“It’s so huge [because] it’s only if you get relegated that the deal becomes ridiculously complicated.

“This deal was relatively straightforward, up to the point of regulatory approval. It didn’t get regulatory approval; it didn’t even get a decision, but it was relatively straightforward.

“It was an easy deal for everybody to strike; it’ll just become so complicated, massively complicated if Newcastle United drop out of the division.”

Do you think relegation will impact the takeover?

Yes, it will kill it

No, it will make no difference

TIF Thoughts on the takeover…

The initial deal for Mike Ashley to sell to the consortium was agreed in the middle of April last year, and here we are nearly exactly 12 months on, and we are no closer to knowing if the Toon will be taken over.

One clear thing, though, is that Kennedy believes that relegation will cause complications, so even just to avoid those, you would think that Newcastle will have to avoid relegation, but given their run of form in the past few months, that is far from certain.

This takeover saga has dragged on for so long that the Toon have gone from becoming potentially the wealthiest club in the Premier League to being in a relegation battle with Steve Bruce remaining as their manager.

We hope that this takeover saga ends soon and Newcastle stay in the Premier League.
