Lee Ryder has been speaking on the latest edition of The Chronicle’s Everything is Black & White podcast about Newcastle United’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

Starting with a relatively recent player. Who is this?

One of the topics that Ryder mentioned while discussing this result was Allan Saint-Maximin’s performance and also the Frenchman’s future.

The 24-year-old was a livewire for Newcastle again, and at one point when he was away, Fabinho totally cleaned him out, which was pretty much the only way the Reds could stop him.

Since he has returned from injury, Saint-Maxmin has turned in performances worth an average WhoScored rating of 8.03, 7.84, and 7.44.

So, it is no wonder Ryder is worried about Newcastle keeping onto him.

He said: “I don’t want to sound negative, but if you’re playing that well, people are going to take notice and Steve Bruce, I think, touched on it himself in his press conference the other day, that is going to be the challenge they’re going to have.

“There’ll be top teams that like the look of him. He’s probably turned the season on its head for Newcastle in terms of pushing them away from danger.”

Do you think Newcastle can keep hold of Allan Saint-Maximin?

TIF Thoughts on Saint-Maximin’s future…

Since signing for £16.2m in the summer of 2019, Saint-Maximin has scored seven goals and provided 12 assists for Newcastle.

He also signed a new six-year deal at the club earlier this season, so the Toon are protected on that front.

However, could Mike Ashley be tempted to accept a large bid in the summer? Given his history of accepting big bids for the likes of Andy Carroll and Moussa Sissoko, we wouldn’t be surprised if Ashley accepts a similar bid for Saint-Maximin in the off-season.

However, we hope that he stays on Tyneside because he is a special talent that the Toon should be looking to keep, no matter what.
