Newcastle United supporters have been reacting on Twitter after a report emerged providing an update on the club’s protracted takeover talks.

The Magpies appeared to be set to join the wealthiest clubs in the world last summer when current owner Mike Ashley agreed to sell the St. James Park outfit to a consortium backed by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) in a £300m deal.

However, the prospective buyers failed to pass the Premier League’s fit and proper owners’ and directors’ test, and Ashley has been locked in a court case ever since attempting to push the deal over the line.

A recent report in The Chronicle claimed: ‘Takeover sources expect the arbitration battle to start this summer but whether new owners are in place by the start of pre-season is unclear,’ and it seems large sections of the Newcastle supporters have grown tired of the process and lost faith that the deal will ever be concluded.

“In the summer, we’ll be told it’s starting at Christmas.”

“I’m bored of this. Really bored.”

@ToonFan14

“There’s nothing unclear about it. The answer will be no.”

@MxG84

“Takeover’s not happening man”

@SeanReesNUFC

“It’s not happening, get over it”

@Eazmcn

“100 Ashley in charge”

@BigDaveStorey

Many have suggested that the Newcastle fans and the wider footballing community should resist the PIF’s attempts to buy the North East side due to their poor human rights record, and it’s hard to disagree with those calls when looking at it through an objective, humanitarian lense.
