Newcastle United supporters have been reacting on Twitter after a report disclosed how Amanda Staveley alleged that members of the Premier League ‘Big Six’ campaigned against the club’s takeover due to jealousy.

The proposed sale of the Magpies to the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund fell through last summer after the consortium pulled out due to matters relating to the Premier League’s owners’ and directors’ test.

Mike Ashley is currently involved in a court case to try and push through the £300m+ sale of the St. James’ Park outfit, with a final decision yet to be made.

Staveley fronted the bid attempting to acquire the Magpies and reportedly would have had a hands-on role had the takeover attempt been successful, and the businesswoman claimed that she knew ‘that other clubs briefed heavily against it because they were jealous’ in an interview with The Athletic last summer.

Many people doubted her accusations at the time, but with the emergence of the newly-formed Super League, Staveley’s retort seems far more plausible, and the Newcastle fans are clearly in agreement.

“And the PL were too stupid to realise that greater competition would only make their league stronger. The Premier League leadership is an absolute joke. Totally out of their depth in every way. Masters is 4th choice for a reason!”

“As we suspected.”

“Of course they were… she has no reason to lie. We have known this for years. EPL should pass through takeover, but as a toon fan I hope they are more a Leicester style owners than this US lot.”

@Stui_86

“It’s definitely making more sense…….Spurs, Arsenal & even Man Utd must have had major concerns”

@Lee18_92Johnson

“It seems clear this was the case, we warned them and they laughed at us. Well, they’re not laughing now.”

@B58785225Fan

“All making sense now.”
