Newcastle United fans have been reacting to comments made by Richard Keys about the club and their current situation.

Newcastle United grabbed three huge points in their bid to stay in the Premier League at the weekend, something that no doubt will have provided a huge boost to head coach Steve Bruce who has had his job come under intense scrutiny from supporters in recent weeks. Through it all though, owner Mike Ashley has continued to back Bruce and kept in his job despite the threat of relegation.

And taking to his personal blog, Keys praised the Newcastle owner for his handling of the situation, saying “Mike Ashley isn’t anybody’s favourite on Tyneside but he struck a blow for those in charge of clubs when he publicly backed his man recently”, praising him for his decision to stick with Bruce for what Keys called ‘the impossible job’.

The comments were relayed to fans by local newspaper The Chronicle, where there were plenty of fans who were waiting to tear into the pundit for his take on the matter:

“Rafa didn’t find it impossible, he thrived in the role. As have others. #nufc is not impossible, it’s arguably one of the biggest managerial challenges in football. Where the character of the manager is as important as his qualifications. Keys knows nothing about character.”

“He’s the Piers Morgan of football”
“Just more attention-seeking”
“Praising Mike Ashley is like praising a bank robber”
“Keeps contradicting himself. Forever praising Ashley now saying the impossible job. SBR, KK, RB, CH didn’t find it impossible.”
“Hahahaha this guy hasn’t got a clue”

Will Newcastle have new owners next season?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

This of course isn’t the first time that Keys has run into problems with Newcastle United fans, and it’s unlikely going to be the last time, either.
