Newcastle United supporters have been reacting on Twitter after Gabriel Agbonlahor stated they owe Steve Bruce an apology.

The Magpies have struggled throughout the current campaign and are currently sitting in 17th position in the Premier League table, just six points above the relegation zone.

However, a 2-1 victory over Burnley at the weekend opened up a six-point gap to Scott Parker’s Fulham and drastically improved Newcastle’s survival chances.

The result was a welcome reprieve for Bruce, who has been under intense pressure in recent weeks after the St. James’ Park outfit recorded just two wins in 18 league games following a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion.

Newcastle’s rotten run led to fans protesting against the 60-year-old, but in an interview with Football Insider, Agbonlahor said that their recent win means the supporters should say sorry for their treatment of Bruce, something they clearly disagree with.

“Why. Because he’s got a grand total of 32 points from 31 games. We now play 4 of the top 6 and Arsenal, who we have an awful record against. We’re still 17th and still in danger of relegation. I’ll apologise to Bruce when he gets us to play well for a whole 90 mins”

“Embarrassing. Wins one game man.”

@Magpie24_7

“I’m not sure which part of that is more delusional. The fact he thinks we owe Bruce an apology, or that he thinks Ashley will give him a ton of money in the summer.”

@scott_edowes

“Speechless”

@Margeandrews20

“He’s won 3 games in 23. Why should we apologise for that?”

@James03292461

“Literally, which other manager who spent £150m to take a 10th-placed team to 17th would get this treatment? It’s just mad.”

Newcastle are still in danger of playing Championship football next season, and winning just your third game in 23 outings is hardly a call for celebration.
