Newcastle United supporters have been reacting on social media after reports emerged linking Joe Willock with an extended stay at the club.

The 21-year-old joined the Magpies on loan from boyhood club Arsenal in January and has impressed during his time in the North East, scoring two potentially crucial goals in eight Premier League appearances.

Willock’s accomplished performances have helped Steve Bruce’s men to stay above the relegation zone as they battle to beat the drop this season, but they don’t appear to have done enough to convince Mikel Arteta that his future lies at the Emirates Stadium.

According to the Sunday Mirror (4th April 2021, p63 – as reported by The Chronicle), Arsenal would be willing to sell the midfielder for around £20m this summer and would also be content with sending him out on loan to another top-flight club next season; something that went down well with the Newcastle fans across Twitter and Facebook:

“Gutted if we don’t manage to get Willock back, if we did manage a loan then hopefully we’ll agree a permanent option as well”

@DayleBarron

“No brainer to buy, box to box midfielder and more importantly gets in the box at the right times and chips in with goals. Great young player.”

@framer_82

“Imo his energy & enthusiasm & ability makes it a no brainer (as long as we stay up) Been impressed by him & he seems to have bought into what club means to fans etc.”

Newcastle face Burnley on Sunday in what could prove to be a pivotal clash in their fight to stay up, and Willock could be given another chance to prove his worth when the Magpies travel to Turf Moor.
