In an exclusive interview with This is Futbol, former Derby County manager Paul Jewell believes Steve Bruce has done well to keep Newcastle United up with the club being like a circus at times.

Bruce looked set for the exit door after the Magpies’ 3-0 defeat away to Brighton but since then, Newcastle are unbeaten in their last four games having taken eight points in games against Tottenham Hotspur, Burnley, West Ham and Liverpool.

Has Bruce done a good job at Newcastle?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Since he took the job to succeed Rafa Benitez, Bruce has been fighting against public opinions of him with many fans still not warming to the former Sunderland manager despite keeping them up for two seasons.

Speaking on how Newcastle United is very much like a circus and how Bruce has had to put up with abuse and stick from day one at Newcastle, Jewell talked to This is Futbol:

“He’s had to put up with stick from day one at Newcastle and that might be because he used to manage Sunderland, but I really don’t know. Steve will be the first to say a club like Newcastle shouldn’t be at the lower echelons of the Premier League.

“Newcastle is a circus at times so Steve must be pulling his hair out, and I’m sure that like a lot of supporters people just don’t understand what’s going.”

Easy one to get us underway, in what month during 2019 was Steve Bruce appointed Newcastle manager?

Newcastle brought in a third assistant coach in January as Graeme Jones arrived from Bournemouth as the hierarchy believed the squad needed a new voice.

The Magpies have given themselves some breathing space from the bottom three, however they face several teams in the top half of the Premier League in the coming weeks.
