Newcastle United fans on Twitter have been sharing their criticism for Toon midfielder Sean Longstaff and his performance during the Tyneside club’s recent 1-1 draw against Liverpool in the Premier League.

An early goal from Mohamed Salah put the home side ahead until Joe Willock came off the bench to score an equaliser in the final seconds of the match and secure a point for Steve Bruce’s team.

The 23-year-old, who is currently valued at £13.5 million, made his senior debut for Newcastle back in December 2018 under former Toon boss Rafa Benitez. Since then, the midfielder has gone on to make 64 appearances for Newcastle in which he has managed to score four goals and provide four assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

Looking at these tweets from this group of Newcastle fans, it’s clear to see that they were not impressed by what they saw from Longstaff against Liverpool, with some even questioning his ability to play for the first team.

Given how Chronicle Live said that Longstaff “lost the ball a couple of times” through the match, it’s easy to see why these fans were not happy with him.

Moving forward, if Longstaff manages to play in Newcastle’s remaining games of the season, he will need to make sure he shows on the pitch that he has what it takes to be a regular figure in the squad and deserves to be there.
