Newcastle United supporters have been reacting on Twitter after Joe Willock put in another impressive performance on Saturday.

The Arsenal loanee came off the bench in the 81st minute against West Ham United with Steve Bruce’s men drawing 2-2 but managed to have an instant impact at St. James’ Park, scoring his sixth goal of the season just a minute later.

Willock’s late strike made it back-to-back victories for the Magpies and moved them nine points clear of the relegation zone.

The 21-year-old midfielder has impressed since joining Newcastle in January, and his standout cameo from the bench has seen supporters call for Bruce to start the Englishman in the future.

“We really need to sign Joe Willock, baffles me how he doesn’t start with how bad our midfield is…”

@Nufcjay1892

“Joe Willock has already achieved cult hero status. His goals have come in games where we’ve got points and will probably be enough to keep us up. He’s our best midfielder and can actually break into a sprint unlike most of them. Of course he doesn’t start games”

@NathElCuchillo

“Here’s a crazy idea for Steve Bruce? You know that joe willock guy who’s like your best midfielder by a mile? START HIM”

@nickmanfredi14

“Not sure how Steve Bruce can look at that Newcastle team and decide Almiron is a better option to start games than Joe Willock”

@olavcfc

“Joe Willock has done more in 83 seconds than Sean Longstaff has done in 81 minutes. Has to start the next game”

@hasancho14

“The fact longstaff and almiron get a start over joe willock is just wild”

@_Listerrr

Newcastle have an extremely tough run of fixtures over the next few weeks, with games against Liverpool, Arsenal, Leicester City and Manchester City to come, and it seems as though these fans think Willock should get an opportunity to feature from the off throughout the run in.

After all, he managed to achieve a very respectable rating of 7.1/10 (as per WhoScored), despite coming on as a substitute.
