Manchester United journalist Andy Mitten has recently discussed the future of Edinson Cavani.

Mitten appeared on the OTB Football podcast and was asked about numerous issues involving Man Utd following their dominating 6-2 win over Roma in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final.

He also talked about Cavani and his future after the Uruguayan’s brace against the Giallorossi. The journalist stated that he knows people who are close to the striker and his decision to leave Man Utd isn’t exactly set in stone yet.

Will Cavani sign an extension at Man Utd?

While Cavani grabbed a brace against Roma, he also managed to grab as many as three assists for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. Some weeks ago, he had been crucial for Man Utd in a win over Tottenham, not long after rumours had circulated about his future following comments made by his father.

Mitten talked about the striker, saying that while Cavani held talks with Ed Woodward in London about not signing an extension, his future may not be completely decided yet and things can still change.

He claimed: “I was surprised that PSG let him go. A French journalist last night, who’s been around for a long time, very well respected in France, he just messaged me and said they really miss him in Paris and they’re frightened of saying it.

“And you can see why. He’s had a pretty difficult time at Old Trafford, but it’s coming good for him these last few months, he is showing the player that he is. He said last month that he didn’t want to stay when he met Ed Woodward in a one-to-one meeting in London.

“But I’m sensing now and I speak to people in Uruguay, I know people who know him very well, that decision might not be as set in stone as it would have been. I mean, he’s got to stay.”

Nice easy one to start off with, who currently sits top of the table?

TIF Thoughts on Cavani’s future…

During his time at Old Trafford, Cavani has contributed to a total of 17 goals in all competitions. He has scored 12 goals, with eight of them coming in the Premier League (as per Transfermarkt).

United have been linked with a move for Erling Haaland and Harry Kane, but both the forwards would be very expensive considering their values. And United are in the market for a striker anyway.

Keeping in mind Cavani’s performances and the fact that he only arrived on a free transfer, keeping him for another season might be a very smart move from United. It could perhaps save them some funds that can be used to strengthen other positions.
