Former Premier League striker Dean Windass has exclusively told This is Futbol that he always thought that Kasper Schmeichel would end up at Manchester United.

Despite coming through the ranks at Manchester City, Kasper’s dad, Peter, is a legendary former United goalkeeper, and therefore Windass believed that the Danish number one was destined for a move to Old Trafford.

But Schmeichel has spent virtually the whole of his career at Leicester City, and despite signing for the Foxes when they were a Championship outfit, has enjoyed a glistening period at the King Power, winning the Premier League before reaching the quarter finals of the Champions League the following season.

Schmeichel was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United last summer to replace David De Gea, but has remained loyal to Leicester, and still has more than two years remaining on his contract.

When quizzed about United’s current goalkeeping situation with uncertainty over the Spaniard’s future, Windass told This is Futbol:

“I actually always thought that Kasper Schmeichel would end up at Man United because of the connections with his dad. Kasper is good with his feet, too”
