Simon Hughes has been speaking on the latest instalment of the Blood Red podcast, where he revealed Liverpool’s owners plan to back Jurgen Klopp financially this summer no matter where they finish in the Premier League table.

The reigning English champions are currently sitting in seventh in the top-flight standings after enduring a difficult campaign.

Several serious injuries to key players, alongside a significant drop-off in form amongst many of Klopp’s men, has seen the Reds slide down the division this season.

However, according to Hughes, FSG still have faith in Klopp and intend to provide him with sufficient funds for the enigmatic German manager to strengthen in the upcoming transfer window.

The journalist said: “I do think that from all the noises coming out, it seems like that they are going to back Klopp, regardless of what happens in the summer, but it also feels like that, it’s a cliche, but they shot themselves in the foot by being too cautious in the first instance.

“I understand, obviously, some of the players that they may have wanted may not have been available, but you can’t always plan for the long-term. I think that’s reflected by the signings that they made in the end.

“I mean, it was a bit of a trolley dash the last couple of days to get the two signings that they made over the line. And I just think they should have done that a bit earlier.”

TIF Thoughts on Liverpool…

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table with just three league defeats all season, but more significantly for Liverpool, the Etihad Stadium outfit have a 25-point advantage over the Reds.

Therefore, Klopp will need access to the necessary funds in order to close that gap over the summer, especially if the 2019 Champions League winners miss out on next season’s competition and the prize money that comes with it.

Catching up with the Citizens will be a big ask for Liverpool in 2021/22, although with the right investment, it may just be possible.
