Former footballer Keith Gillespie has recently praised Liverpool for their decision to loan out Harvey Elliott.
Gillespie was recently talking to Football FanCast about Elliott and the fact that Liverpool loaned the youngster out to the Championship last summer. The former Man Utd and Newcastle man praised the Reds for their decision, saying that it is a ‘wise decision’ from the Merseyside-based club.
Elliott had initially joined Liverpool from Fulham in the summer of 2019, as Jurgen Klopp’s side paid a fee of £1.53 million to lure him to Anfield. Last summer though, the teenager was loaned out to Blackburn Rovers and he’s expected to return in the summer (as per Transfermarkt).
Will Elliott get first-team football next season at Liverpool?
Blackburn’s Elliot Bennett has already praised the teenager for his abilities, describing him to be a ‘special, special player’.
Gillespie delivered his views about the loan move and stated: “I think it’s been a wise move for Liverpool to send him out there to the Championship, a good level of football – playing week in week out against seasoned-pros, rather than staying at Liverpool and playing Under-23s football.”
Elliott has impressed in the Championship, having scored five league goals and racking up a tally of ten assists so far. He’s shown the capability of playing across the front four, playing mainly on the right wing but also playing as a forward, attacking midfielder and as a left winger.
He’s been the joint-second-highest assister in the Championship, which shows that he’s certainly enjoying a rather stellar campaign and the loan move is certainly aiding his development. Considering that Liverpool enough players in the positions that Elliott plays in, it was a wise move to loan the youngster out.
