In an exclusive interview with This Is Futbol, Steve Howey, who made 270 appearances during his career, believes Steven Gerrard will want to manage Liverpool during his career and it may only be a matter of time.

Gerrard’s first managerial job has earned him a lot of plaudits having guided Rangers to their 55th league title, as well as stopping Celtic from making in 10 in a row at the same time.

Would Gerrard do well as manager of Liverpool?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Rangers had not won a league title since the 2010/11 season before they were demoted to the third division of Scottish football after they went into administration, however Gerrard has turned them into a force both domestically and in Europe.

Speaking on why it only makes sense for Gerrard to manage Liverpool and if he would want the job at his boyhood club, Howey told This Is Futbol:

If he continues to do what he’s doing, and maybe go to another club before Liverpool, then he absolutely could manage them and I think that’s what he would want.

He’ll have aspirations to be the manager of Liverpool and looking at what he’s done, at Rangers, with the players he has got, I think he’s done an amazing job.

It just seems as though it would be a natural progression for him.”

First up in this Mo Salah quiz, what is his current squad number for Liverpool?

Liverpool fans are not looking for Jurgen Klopp to leave Anfield, however he has been linked with the German national side’s job in recent weeks despite trying to distance himself from the rumours.

Gerrard’s aim next season will be to retain the title against a Celtic side who will have a new manager, with Eddie Howe the frontrunner at the moment.
