Liam Grimshaw has been speaking on the latest episode of the LFC Transfer Room podcast, where he revealed well-respected journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed Liverpool are targeting Piotr Zielinski this summer.

The Napoli midfielder has impressed for Gennaro Gattuso’s men this season, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists in all competitions.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were reportedly keen on signing the Poland international back in 2016 but opted for Gini Wijnaldum instead.

However, with the 30-year-old now heavily linked with an imminent move to Barcelona, Zielinski could become Wijnaldum’s replacement at Anfield, according to Grimshaw.

He said: “Some more news from Italy. We spoke with Gianluca Di Marzio, who gave us an exclusive that Piotr Zielinski still remains a target for Liverpool, but it depends on what the Reds’ budget’s going to be this coming summer, which is just one that will not go away because we were linked to him back in like 2015, 2016.”

TIF Thoughts on Zielinski…

It’s been an extremely disappointing campaign for Liverpool, and signing the former Udinese man over the summer could go some way to restoring their title credentials for next season judging by his output this season.

However, Zielinski is valued at £41.4m (as per Transfermarkt), and Liverpool may be priced out of a move if they do want to take him away from the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium if the current state of their finances are anything to go by.
