Former Leicester City man Matt Elliott thinks that the Foxes will be able to cope without central defender Çaglar Söyüncü for their game against West Ham United this weekend.

The game is vitally important for both teams in their respective chases for a Champions League spot, and a Foxes loss combined with other results across the weekend could see their gap to 5th-placed Chelsea drop to as little as two points.

Brendan Rodgers’ men will continue to be without Turkish defender Söyüncü who is still absent having tested positive whilst on international duty, having already missed their defeat to Manchester City this past weekend. But speaking on the 5000/1 podcast, Elliott thinks that Leicester should be able to get by with what they already have in their ranks:

“Unfortunately, you’ve just got to get on with the hand that you’re dealt, really. And I think Leicester have the capability to do that. Daniel Amartey, didn’t let anyone down last week.

“I think Leicester again will go with a back three to have that sort of insurance, I think away from home at West Ham which is such a big game.”

TIF Thoughts on Matt Elliott’s comments about Çaglar Söyüncü and Leicester City…

This game does come across as something as a ‘must not lose’ game for Leicester given what is at stake, so for Elliott to refer to a three-man defence as ‘insurance’ is probably the right way to go.

And with Amartey, Leicester do have a pretty solid replacement ready and waiting, with the Ghanaian averaging more tackles and interceptions per game than Söyüncü across the Premier League season.

So the Foxes defence should have enough to keep the Hammers attack, which has shown the ability to score in bunches recently, at bay for large parts of the game, which should hopefully be enough to earn them at least a point at the London Stadium.
