Many Leeds United fans took to Twitter following the 2-1 victory over Sheffield United on Saturday to hail the performance of centre-back Diego Llorente.
The 27-year-old signed from Real Sociedad last summer has endured a difficult start to life in Yorkshire having had his season truncated by regular injury issues.
However, having completed his sixth consecutive 90 minutes in the Premier League the Elland Road faithful have begun to see the Spaniard’s best form
Having been called up to represent Spain during the international break, Llorente put in another stellar performance at the heart of the Leeds defence – completing three tackles, blocking one shot and winning four ground duels (SofaScore).
These Leeds supporters were certainly appreciative of the defender’s efforts as Marcelo Bielsa’s men moved into the top half of the table.
“Solid at the back mate big games coming up! #lufc”
“You’re playing better & better now you’ve regained your match sharpness. Clear to see why Marcelo wanted you in our side. Enjoy your rest day!”
“You were Excellent today Diego”
“You were outstanding today”
“Quality performance today Diego. You are looking stronger and better with each game. Well done, keep it up”
Has Diego Llorente been a successful signing?
Yes
No
Llorente arrived at Elland Road with an abundance of experience and top-flight pedigree having played over 100 La Liga matches in his career.
Unfortunately, the Whites are yet to witness his peak form due to persistent issues, but with a run of games between now and the end of the season, perhaps next season will see the best of the £18m-valued (Transfermarkt) man.
