Former Premier League manager Paul Jewell has recently dropped a claim about Marcelo Bielsa’s future at Leeds United.

Bielsa’s current contract at Leeds runs out in the summer and the Argentine has already denied that he has signed a new two-year contract at the club. Argentine outlet La Nacion had previously reported that Bielsa has committed to a two-year deal, with the manager stating that the information wasn’t real.

Jewell was recently talking to Football FanCast and he dropped a claim about Bielsa’s future, saying that the ex-Lille and Marseille boss has given his word about signing a new deal at Elland Road.

Will Bielsa sign a new deal?

Jewell stated: “I think if he gives you his word then he sticks to it, and I’ve heard that he only signs a new contract at the end of the season because he’s so focused on the job.

“He’s one of those managers that if you can’t do what he wants you to do then he will tell you very quickly that you aren’t for him, and I think that’s a great way to be.”

TIF Thoughts on Paul Jewell’s Bielsa comments…

Journalist Adam Pope has stated that while Bielsa hasn’t agreed a new deal or anything yet, the Argentine likes to sort these things out at the conclusion of the campaign and he sounded confident about the fact that he will sign a new deal. The journalist has also said that Bielsa is happy at Leeds.

So it looks like Jewell’s comments will come to pass, though with Bielsa often taking his contract talks to the wire, it’s only natural speculation grows and the uncertainty keeps people guessing.

Considering that the Whites are ninth in the table and only seven points behind sixth-placed Liverpool, any improvements to the squad in the summer could lead to a European push next season. So if Bielsa stays, it would be a huge boost for the Whites.
