Leeds United fans have flocked to a post on the club’s official Twitter account after it revealed Joe Gelhardt has been nominated for March’s Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.

The 18-year-old joined the Elland Road outfit on a four-year deal last summer after departing boyhood club Wigan Atheltic in a £1m deal.

Since arriving at the West Yorkshire club, Gelhardt has been in impressive form, bagging 11 goals and laying on three assists for his teammates in 15 league appearances for Leeds’ youth team.

However, the England Under-18 international hit new heights in March, scoring four times, including a hat-trick against West Brom, as well as providing one assist.

Gelhardt’s scintillating displays clearly caught the attention of the division’s bosses, who put him forward for the Player of the Month award, and the Leeds supporters are eager to see the teenager in the first team before the end of the current campaign.

Leeds are enjoying their first season back in the Premier League after a 16-year absence, and Marcelo Bielsa may just be tempted to reward Gelhardt for a run out in the top-flight before the season’s conclusion.
