Lots of Leeds United fans have been talking about a news update linking them with a move for Sam Johnstone.

The Express & Star has been recently reported that Leeds are interested in bringing Johnstone to Elland Road, while multiple clubs have drawn links with the Englishman in the past.

The report states that the goalkeeper is ‘in no rush’ to leave The Hawthorns in the summer and the Baggies ‘will only listen to sensible offers’ for the Englishman – but will not stand in Johnstone’s way if a suitable offer comes in for him.

This news was relayed on Twitter by Leeds United News. Many Whites fans made their views clear about the goalkeeper.

What did Leeds fans make of the news about Johnstone?

“He’s not going to sign to be 2nd choice to Meslier. Kiko will probably still be at Leeds, I can’t see any club taking over his wages. It’s cheaper for us to keep Kiko on the books rather than go out and buy someone else whilst continuing to pay his wages.

Johnstone, 28, is a product of the Manchester United youth academy and the Englishman has been a regular for West Brom in the current Premier League campaign.

Leeds have had some odd players over the last ten years but how well do you remember them. Starting with the most recent one, who is this?

The report about the goalkeeper states that he has been in ‘outstanding’ form this season and since his contract at The Hawthorns runs out in the summer, he could attract multiple potential suitors if the Baggies go down.

“Why would he come to us to be 2nd choice?

“Only way I see that happening is if we have aspirations to sell Meslier in next year or so then it makes sense.

“Could only see it happening if Meslier leaves. Fingers crossed that won’t happen”

A lot of these Leeds fans believe that they can’t see Johnstone as an important signing because Illan Meslier has already been a regular for the Whites this season.

Having said that, Kiko Casilla has been linked with a move away from Elland Road, meaning that there could be a slot empty in the goalkeeping pecking order. Johnstone could take up that vacant spot and push young Meslier for the starting spot. That can play a role in improving the Frenchman as well. So this can be a good signing for the Whites, especially if Johnstone arrives for free.
