Duncan Castles has been speaking on the latest instalment of The Transfer Window podcast, where he revealed that reported Leeds United transfer target Adama Traore has been ‘made available for sale’ by Wolves.

It’s been a disappointing campaign for Traore, who has failed to find the back of the net in the Premier League so far this season, but he did register his first assist of 2020/21 last time out.

The Spain international’s struggles have been somewhat surprising as he appeared to make great progress in 2019/20, scoring six goals and laying on an impressive 12 assists for his teammates in all competitions.

However, according to Castles, the Midlands outfit are prepared to cut ties with the £31.5m-rated man as they look to freshen up the first-team squad this summer.

He said: “I’m hearing it’s not just Pedro Neto that’s being made available for sale. It’s also Ruben Neves, and also Adama Traore.

“So, essentially the three, I think you would say, most sellable, most valuable talents on the Wolves squad at present – excluding Raul Jimenez because it’s obviously going to be difficult to sell him until he’s come back and started playing again, and Jimenez is now pushing towards 30, which again makes the value of a transfer more difficult to secure.

“Adama Traore is 25 is contracted until 2023, Ruben Neves is 24 contracted until 2023, Pedro Neto [is] in an even stronger position in that he’s 21, now a full Portugal international and contracted until 2025. They want to sell at least one of those for a substantial fee, perhaps more than one of those, and then reinvest and freshen up the squad.”

TIF Thoughts on Traore to Leeds…

Leeds United have been linked with a move for Traore for several months now, and this latest revelation could spark a bid for the 25-year-old in the coming months.

Whether Marcelo Bielsa’s men need another right-sided attacker is another question, however. The likes of Raphinha, Jack Harrison and Helder Costa are all comfortable playing there, and the west Yorkshire outfit may be better suited ploughing their resources into other positions.

Left-back Ezgjan Alioski has reportedly agreed to a pre-contract deal with Turkish giants Galatasaray, while Kalvin Phillips still carries a significant burden in central midfield, so Leeds would arguably be wiser strengthening those positions instead.
