Leeds United’s playing surface at Elland Road has come in for plenty of criticism recently.

A hybrid pitch, described as a ‘short-term solution’ for the remainder of the season, was installed in January.

Come May, a complete pitch reconstruction will commence at the home of the Whites.

After the goalless draw with Chelsea in Leeds’ final home game before the international break, Thomas Tuchel and Ben Chilwell both bemoaned the poor quality of the surface (via Leeds Live).

Leeds are back on home soil on Saturday for a Yorkshire derby against bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United.

Ahead of the game, the Athletic’s Phil Hay posted an image of the pitch on Twitter, noting that the ‘grass looks better’.

Victory would move Leeds into the top half, above Aston Villa and level on points with Arsenal for a few hours at least.

They have, though, lost four of their six home games in 2021 so far.
