Adam Forshaw took another step toward a first-team return on Friday, turning out for Leeds’ Under-23s.

Having come through 60 minutes of a training match unscathed the previous weekend, Forshaw was given the greenlight to return to competitive action.

Forshaw was included in Mark Jackson’s starting line-up as they took on the Aston Villa youth, and he completed 84 minutes before being substituted off.

Incidentally, Leeds won the match 2-1 to secure the Premier League 2 Division 2 title.

An end to Forshaw’s injury nightmare?

£2.25million-rated midfielder Forshaw last played for the first XI way back in September 2019 – the early stages of their successful promotion campaign.

He’s been plagued by hip and groin problems since.

But he could now be in line for a Premier League run-out before the season is out.

Were Leeds battling for survival, it would be more difficult to justify fitness-building exercises like that.

But with seven games still to play, they’ve amassed 45 points and sit comfortably in mid-table, with the pressure off.

The club’s official Twitter account posted some images of Forshaw in action, and here’s how fans reacted.
