Leeds United supporters have been reacting on Twitter after a post revealed Chris Kavanagh is set to take charge of their game against Brighton and Hove Albion over the weekend.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men travel to the south coast on Saturday as they aim to secure their place in the top half of the Premier League table between now and the end of the season.

It’s been a fabulous first campaign back in the English top-flight following a 16-year absence for the west Yorkshire side, and a positive result at the Amex Stadium would see them extend their impressive six-game unbeaten run, which has included a victory over Manchester City.

However, it seems as though some fans think Leeds’ task against the Seagulls has been made that much harder after Adam Pope revealed Kavanagh is set to referee the intriguing encounter.

The 35-year-old official made a controversial call last time out, sending off West Ham United’s Fabian Balbuena after the defender caught Ben Chilwell with his studs after clearing the call, and the Elland Road faithful clearly have their doubts over his ability.

“Hope nobody tries kicking the ball then. Straight red card”

@BenJonesLUFC

“Another referee that’s clueless”

@MATTMIL98314537

“Isn’t he the muppet that sent the West Ham lad off for kicking the ball the other day?”

@danpscaife

“Buy your lotto tickets.”

@j_hibble

“Jarred Gillet was also VAR when we played the Blunts and he thought Baldock’s assault occasioning actual bodily harm on Tyler Roberts was a fair tackle.”

@NakedFarang

“oh great Gillett is the fourth official”

@billyboy1984

“He should be demoted for a while after his daft red card decision…”

@ChrisGall

Kavanagh has refereed Leeds three times already this season, overseeing victories over Leicester City and Everton, as well as a 4-1 defeat to Crystal Palace back in November.
