Former Leeds midfielder Carlton Palmer has indicated he expects other Premier League sides to exhibit an interest in signing Leeds bulwark Kalvin Phillips.

Having made 22 appearances in the Premier League this term, Phillips has continued to hold down his mainstay status in Marcelo Bielsa’s plans.

Throughout his Leeds career since his breakthrough, Phillips has been reliable in his various defensive roles.

He has featured extensively as both a defensive and a central midfielder, even making forays at centre-half and on the wing in a fine testament to the multitude of qualities he offers.

Having continued to be trusted by Gareth Southgate following his first England cap in September last year, Phillips is cementing himself in the England set-up too.

Consequently, Palmer feels that lays the foundation for other clubs to develop an interest in the home-grown talent.

Speaking to FootballFanCast, the former Whites ace predicted emerging interest:

“Listen, if you’re playing well and you’re playing for your country, they’ll always be interest. That is for sure.

“Once you start playing for your country, you’re playing well and you’re playing for your club in the Premier League, of course, people are going to come and watch you and people are going to be interested in you. That’s a fact”, Palmer also added.

“Obviously, nowadays, with the riches that can be added to the Premier League, it’s easy for these players to get their head turned.”

It remains to be seen as to whether a club will come in for Phillips’ services, but Leeds will not want to part with their star £23.4 million-valued asset cheaply [via Transfermarkt].
