In an exclusive interview with This Is Futbol, Steve Howey, who made 270 appearances during his career, believes Everton will become one of the big clubs of the Premier League in a few years with their new stadium and well-backed owner.

Since Farhad Moshiri, and now Alisher Usmanov, have become involved at Everton they have went on a number of spending sprees and a lot of that money has been wasted on players such as Davy Klaassen, Morgan Schneiderlin and Yannick Bolasie.

Carlo Ancelotti has turned Everton into serious European challengers as they sit just two points off a Europa League spot, and they were tipped as title contenders earlier in the season.

Speaking on how their new stadium could be huge for their future and the difference having invested owners makes to a club, Howey told This Is Futbol:

I think with a manager like Ancelotti you’ve always got a chance and for me personally, I think Everton are going to go through a massive transition period.

Obviously they’ve got their new owners and are looking to get this fantastic new stadium, and I think in a couple of years they could prove to be one of the big boys.”
