This comes after Prentice made an appearance on a recent episode of the Liverpool Echo’s Royal Blue Podcast where he spoke about a number of topics concerning Carlo Ancelotti’s side, including their recent 1-0 victory over Arsenal in the Premier League.
On the subject of Pickford and his recent run of form for Everton, Prentice had this to say on the matter. (10.15)
He said: “He’s very, very quietly, starting to produce the performances that we saw from him in his opening season at Goodison Park, and that we hoped to see from him more consistently and if you also factor into it, how good his distribution was during the game [against Arsenal] again, he was pinging balls left, right and centre and sparking attacks with his distribution.
“Let’s not get carried away because we know we’ve been here before and we’ve seen mistakes derail things, but for now, Jordan Pickford is looking pretty good and we’ve got every right to be very, very happy with him.”
Everton signed Pickford back in the 2017 summer transfer window from Sunderland for a fee of £25.65 million. Since then, the 27-year-old, who is currently valued at £19.8 million, has gone on to make 156 appearances for the Toffees across all competitions in which he has managed to keep 44 clean sheets (per Transfermarkt).
TIF Thoughts on Dave Prentice’s comments on Pickford and his form for Everton…
Despite Prentice’s praise for Pickford, the fact that he has only managed to keep seven clean sheets throughout the 25 league appearances he’s made so far this season, and the fact that he has only managed to rack up an overall season rating of 6.62/10 for his league performances so far, making him Everton’s 15th-highest rated player, suggests that he does have some improving to do as a whole.
Have you been impressed by Pickford this season?
Moving forward, if Pickford can keep a clean sheet in every league game he plays in throughout the remainder of the season, this would not only be a huge boost for his confidence but would also be a massive help to the team.
