Chris Beesley has been speaking on the latest installment of the Royal Blue podcast, where he claimed James Rodriguez is arguably ‘the most talented footballer’ to have ever played for Everton football club.

The Colombia international joined the Toffees on a free transfer after leaving Spanish giants Real Madrid last summer and has gone on to show his top-class quality for his new side, scoring six goals and providing nine assists this season.

Rodriguez arrived at Goodison Park with a big reputation, having played for Porto, Monaco and Bayern Munich as well as Madrid prior to him landing on English shores.

The 29-year-old’s impact has been so big in Beesley’s eyes that he could even go down in the club’s history as the side’s greatest talent.

He said: (17:28) “Well, I think you could make an argument he’s the most talented footballer ever to play for Everton football club. He’s not in the absolute peak of his career, and that’s why he’s at Everton now and not Real Madrid.

“And that’s probably why you can’t depend on him for like 40, 50 games a season, but I mean, if you look at it, I mean, Kevin Sheedy was my boyhood favourite, and I don’t think we’ve had a left foot at Everton like that since Sheedy, that sort of class until James has come down.”

TIF Thoughts on Rodriguez…

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are currently sitting in eighth position in the Premier League table, but have been struggling for form of late, failing to win any of their last five top-flight fixtures.

Rodriguez has still managed to put some solid displays during this barren run, though, scoring once and providing one assist in his last three outings.

The South American star was brought to Merseyside as Everton attempted to close the gap on the traditional top six, and if he can fire them into European competition, then Beesley’s bold claim could be hard to argue against.
