The 28-year-old is in something of a unique situation at Selhurst Park, as a player whose contract doesn’t expire either this summer or next, meaning his future is somewhat ‘secure’ at the club, with the Eagles not being forced into making a decision on what they want to do with him.
But that doesn’t mean that he himself can’t force a move away of his own volition, and speaking on TalkSport over the weekend felt that after Crystal Palace’s display against Chelsea where the game was effectively over after ten minutes, Zaha might start to think about making a move away:
“There’s lots of challenges this summer for Crystal Palace because of the amount of players’ contracts up, the manager’s situation. And Wilf, Wilf is the one where I just don’t think he really wants to be there now. He signed a long-term deal, but I don’t really believe, I don’t see a player that’s happy to be there. It’s more of ‘I’ve signed this deal. I’ve got myself in a mess. What have I done?’ That’s how I feel that Wilf’s looking at it.”
Will Zaha end up staying at Palace this summer?
Yes, he'll stay
No, he'll leave
TIF Thoughts on Tony Cascarino’s comments about Wilfried Zaha’s future at Crystal Palace…
It wouldn’t come as a total surprise if Zaha were to think about a move away as Cascarino hints at, after all, he handed in a transfer request back in the summer of 2019, so he clearly has had his eyes on bigger things. And with Palace set to go through a major transformation this summer both on the pitch and in the dugout, this might be the perfect opportunity for him to make his exit rather than stick around for what is going to be a major rebuild.
