Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend has opened up about his future, or lack thereof at the club ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

The 29-year-old winger is one of a number of Palace players that is running out of time on his current contract at the club, with the club looking like they are set to go through a major overhaul, with even boss Roy Hodgson undecided about his future next season.

And as heard on the TalkSport Daily podcast, Townsend, valued at £7.2m on Transfermarkt, said that he has no idea what his future holds, and that at some points in the season it had even affected his play.

He said: “I’m one of those players out of contract at the end of the season, so I have no idea what’s going on myself. I think that we’ve been told as players that they’re going to make decisions towards the end of the season. We have to keep doing what we’re doing. And that’s it. Basically, we’re contracted until July the first so until July 1st, we have to give everything for the cause.

“Go back to I think in February I was out the team I wasn’t playing well mostly contracts right and down the turn of the years when you start thinking “right I’ve got six months left there” and I think I did really struggle.

“It’s only since then that I’ve kind of realised ‘right, what will be will be’ you just do what you’re currently doing and things will work themselves out.”

TIF Thoughts on Andros Townsend’s comments on his future at Crystal Palace…

Townsend’s comments don’t paint the club in a very good light about how unprepared they seem for the future. Perhaps there is an element of making the players ‘prove’ that they deserve to be part of the plans next season.

But if it is affecting player’s performances as it did Townsend, then they should consider themselves lucky that they aren’t deep in a relegation battle, otherwise their plans could have backfired big time on them.

So perhaps this should serve as a warning for the club not to let this sort of situation happen again any time soon.
