Former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has expressed his delight over Ezri Konsa signing a new contract in an exclusive interview with This Is Futbol.

The Midlands club recently announced on their official website that the 23-year-old central defender has put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at Villa Park until 2026.

Konsa has been part of a Villa defence that has conceded just 33 league goals in 30 matches this season, making it no surprise that his employers were keen to extend his contract.

First up in this Tyrone Mings quiz, how old is the Villa defender?

It is a development that has pleased Hendrie, who has been really impressed with the former Brentford man’s performances.

On Konsa and his new deal, the ex-Villa player told TIF:

I liked him when he was at Brentford. He was one of those players that I felt defensively he’s very good. I like the way that he’s 110% when he goes into challenges, he tries to stop anything that’s coming forward.

“That’s where having that blend with Tyrone Mings and Konsa… it’s worked quite well because Konsa is the nittygritty, puts his head on the line and will go win headers and make great tackles, which he has done this season. So it’s great that he’s signed a new deal.”

Villa boss Dean Smith will be hoping for more of the same from his centre-back when his side take on a bruised Liverpool on Saturday.

The Reds will be desperate to bounce back following their 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
