Aston Villa journalist Ashley Preece has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of club captain Jack Grealish potentially leaving the Midlands club during the upcoming summer transfer window.

This comes after Preece made an appearance on a recent episode of the Birmingham Mail’s Claret & Blue Podcast where he answered a number of questions concerning the Villans.

First up in this Gareth Barry quiz, which club did Villa sign the midfielder from?

During the episode, Preece was asked if he thinks Grealish could leave Villa Park during the upcoming summer transfer window, to which he gave this response.

He said: “I can’t see that happening. I can’t see clubs spending £100 million to get him to be honest. He’s out with an injury; that’s going to put clubs off as well, so I don’t think it’ll be entertained at all. I think Grealish wants to carry on and he wants to fire Villa into Europe.

“I think having fans back next season will bring his game on even further. He can’t wait to play in front of a packed out Villa Park again, because I think he’s one of the players that feeds off it. I think clubs aren’t going to touch it this season based on his injury and the amount that he’ll cost and Villa aren’t going to entertain a bid.”

Grealish, who is a product of Villa’s youth system, made his senior debut for the club back in 2014 during a 4-0 Premier League defeat against Manchester City under former manager Paul Lambert.

Since then, the 25-year-old, who is currently valued at £54 million, has made 209 appearances for Villa across all competitions, in which he has managed to score 32 goals and provide 43 assists in the process (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Ashley Preece’s comments on a potential summer exit for Grealish…

Given how both Manchester City and Manchester United were reportedly interested in signing Grealish during the previous summer transfer window before he signed his new five-year deal, and the fact that he has been Villa’s highest-rated player (per WhoScored) this season in the Premier League, it’s easy to see why the question has been raised over a potential exit this summer.

However, taking into account what Preece had to say in the podcast, in our view, the Villa fans should breathe easy over Grealish’s future at Villa Park.

Are you confident Grealish will see out his current contract at Villa?

In our view, given how he is one of their academy graduates and the number of goals and assists he has provided throughout his time in the senior side, Villa should try and keep hold of Grealish for as long as possible.
